Drabbles of the Week
Jul. 28th, 2023 10:34 amAnother week with a bonus drabble:
Challenge words: cloistered, fireman, flowery, giraffe, psychedelic, spurious
“If you wish me to be obeisant, psychedelic drugs are not the best option.”
The Thrush scientist, a flamboyant woman bathed in flowery perfume, tapped her syringe. “This will make you compliant.”
“But I may not grasp the difference between authentic and spurious statements.” Illya shrugged despite the rope tied around his shoulders. “I might even revert to my native language.”
“I haven’t lived cloistered from the world,” she sniffed. “I understand some Russian.”
“But did you know the Ukrainian words for fireman and giraffe are almost identical?”
She was still mulling that obfuscation when Napoleon burst through the door.

Challenge words: loxodograph, mollitious, peltiferous. plebification, rasorial, sisyphean
“Did you call me a chicken?”
“No!!” Napoleon winced. God, he hoped not.
“A rasorial bird is one who—”
“It was a slip of the tongue.”
“Then what are you hiding?”
A twenty second scuffle later:
“A new word a day. Seriously, Napoleon? You’re already the most mollitious person I’ve ever met. Now you want to be sesquipedalian? Or perhaps attempt the plebification of your speech?”
“Ah … maybe?” Should he try to bluff? “Matching your vocabulary would be a sisyphean task; however, I do know what a loxodograph is.”
“But I guarantee only a botanist ever uses the word ‘peltiferous.’”
