Drabble of the Week
Sep. 8th, 2023 09:12 amTwo, since I never got around to posting last week.
Challenge words: dangerous, dip, fraction, play, trial, x-ray
“It would show up on an x-ray, right?”
“Of course.” The Russian’s brow creased. “I doubt Medical will allow us to play with their equipment, though, especially on a trial and error basis.”
“But this is important, and I’m almost certain—”
“Almost is not sufficient, Napoleon. Unnecessarily radiation is too dangerous.” Illya motioned at tables, heaped with the detritus of the office party. “If even a fraction of UNCLE employees tried the cheese dip, we would have to test dozens of people, and we still might not find it.”
“But that bowl has to be where my ring slipped off.”

Challenge words: abashed, black-and-white, kiss, migrate, pardon, sincere
“Pardon me, Mr Solo, but—” The sincere young technician glanced to Napoleon’s partner, pleading for assistance.
“Migrating data from punch card systems to integrated systems requires formatting adjustments to make the information compatible,” Illya explained incomprehensibly.
“Then Section Four should make adjustments,” Napoleon huffed.
“The necessary changes aren’t to the computer; they’re to the reports being fed into it.” The technician looked abashed but determined.
“What’s wrong with my reports?”
He held out several black-and-white forms. “The slang, sir. The computer doesn’t understand expressions like … ‘kiss up’.”
Napoleon rolled his eyes. “It’s like having a computer lab full of Russians.”
