Drabble of thecWeek
Aug. 18th, 2023 11:02 amTwo, since I forgot to post last week’s entry.
Challenge words: aquatic, conscious, sedate, snow, soap, steadfast
It was no secret that Napoleon Solo disliked aquatic exercise. Sure, he could swim (ideally in warm, calm water) when the mission required it; he was steadfast in fulfilling his duty. Otherwise, though, he preferred his Italian loafer-clad feet on firm, dry ground.
Napoleon also liked temperate climates. A light dusting on Christmas Eve provided enough snow for his entire year, thank you.
So why was he chest deep in icy, sudsy water … trying to keep his sedated partner conscious and waiting to succumb to hypothermia? He wiped soap bubbles from Illya’s blue-tinged lips and pondered the perversity of fate.

Challenge words: breakfast, message, minority, paragraph, surgeon, uniquie
Napoleon glanced up mid-paragraph and sniffed. “What is that?”
“Some kind of sandwich.” His partner poked the waxed paper with one finger. “The message from headquarters came before I’d eaten breakfast; this was the only thing available in the cafeteria before 5am.”
“It smells funny.”
“Only a small minority of people would disagree, but I’m hungry.”
“You’re always hungry. That’s hardly a unique situation, but you shouldn’t risk food poisoning.”
Illya shrugged. “If I get food poisoning there is a surgeon in Medical.”
“Why would you need a surgeon?”
“To remove the bullet after you say ‘I told you so’.”
