There’s a bonus drabble this week in addition to the challenge drabble.

“Damn it, Illya.” Napoleon fumed: his partner was battered, bruised and barely upright. “You’re not fine. Why won’t you admit it?”

Blue eyes stared unblinkingly.

“Why?” he demanded again, his patience fraying.

“Have you ever lived in an orphanage? In a wartorn country … during a famine?”

A metaphorical bucket of ice water poured over the senior agent’s head. “You know I haven’t.”

“Not being fine means one cannot work. Being unable to work means one has no value. Having no value means one will not be fed.”

He huffed out a breath. “All right. You’re fine. Let’s get you fed.”

Challenge words: conquer, courageous, guarded, relation, underwear, uttermost

Napoleon Solo was a courageous man, but he almost quailed at sight of his partner, stripped to his underwear, vision obscured by a dark hood chained around his neck.

Wielding a Thrush machine gun, the Russian was doing his uttermost to conquer the satrap single-handedly, his markmanship having no evident relation to his ability to see his targets. If he’d been guarded, his keepers had learned that lesson the hard way.

Illya suddenly froze, then swiveled. “Napoleon!”

“How’d you know it was me?” The CEA let out a sharp breath.

“Who else would wear French cologne on a rescue mission?”
