dancingponyThis drabble wasn’t written for the six word challenge. It was written for section 7 Angst Bingo. The prompt was ‘Forced to Watch.’
Napoleon shifted uncomfortably on the hard seat, trying not to shiver in the damp, chill air.
Another loud “thwack” echoed around him, and his eyes were yanked almost involuntarily to the victim of the sharp blow. Blood dripped freely from the blond man’s jaw, and Napoleon was certain several teeth were loosened.
“Why are you making me watch this?” he asked, almost wincing.
“You have dragged me to baseball games, basketball games and American football games. It was my turn to choose.”
“You don’t think we see enough violence in our jobs?”
Illya shrugged. “Perhaps, but I enjoy ice hockey.”

“I had the most bizarre dream last night.”
Illya glanced up from his nearly finished report, tapping his pencil on the desktop. “Worse than five days shivering in a Thrush cell with nothing but moldy bread and tepid water to sustain us?”
“Much worse. This dream was … creepy.” Napoleon almost shuddered at the disjointed images still flooding his mind. “There were moaning ghosts, mute phantoms, leering jack-o-lanterns….”
“Ah.” The Russian brow creased, then smoothed, as he pondered his desk calendar. “That explains it.”
“What?”
“It’s time for the Halloween challenge on the Scapbook. We’re in for a harrowing few months.”
