“Permit me.” Napoleon reached to open the inner door, his charismatic smile melting into a grimace when his partner jabbed him, hard, in the ribs.


He schooled his features into a bad-tempered scowl; their plan was to play obnoxious lawyers, bickering over an insurance settlement. Charming pretty ladies was not on the agenda … yet.


“I don’t trust that smarmy, secretive look,” Illya said, covering his friend’s blunder.


“Says the man with more skeletons than shirts in his closet.”


“At least I’m not in my closet.”


Napoleon winced at the secretary’s shocked expression. He’d have to look elsewhere for tonight’s date.

Oh, Illya, I think you'd better get shot saving Napoleon's life on this mission if you don't want him to take revenge after it is over.

Good plan!
Although … maybe just a minor wound. We don’t want him too badly damaged.

Maybe a very minor head would; scalp injuries bleed pretty dramatically and he can always claim he has a concussion too.

Oh, yes. He remembers nothing between arriving at the suspected satrapy and waking up in Medical.

Well, he remembers heroically throwing himself between Napoleon and certain death. After that just pain, then a blank until he wakes up in medical.
