Here’s my B story. (Confession: I’ve read this one multiple times, but I did reread it today for the challenge.)

Botticelli by Elizabeth Bear  http://trashotron.com/agony/fiction/bear-botticelli.htm

It’s slash but non-graphic.

I like the stars. They look very nice. I'm going to read this story. It looks interesting.

Wow — that’s a good one, and new to me. I really enjoyed it, thanks!

It’s archived on a rather obscure website, which is a shame. It’s very difficult to find.

Oh, I'm glad you picked this, it's one of my favorites too, found it years ago! If I remember correctly it wasn't written as fan fic per se, that's why there's no names, though it's very clear who the characters are. It was part of a short story collection.

I like the structure of it, the way the word game takes you deeper into their games--as we find out what they do and who they are. Really good characterizations too.

I had guessed that Elizabeth Bear, being a published author, was trying to extra careful not to violate copyrights — but that was only a guess. No matter why, it’s amazing that the fandom and characters are so very clear without ever using names. I wish she’d written more MFU.
